Aims & Scope

Founded in 1927 by Émile Bréhier (historian of philosophy, member of the Institut), under the titleRevue d'histoire de la philosophie, which becameRevue d'histoire de la philosophie et d'histoire générale de la civilisationin 1933 according to René Jasinski (professor at the University of Lille, later at the Sorbonne and at Harvard), theRevue des Sciences humainestook its current title on January 1, 1947.Published quarterly by the Presses universitaires du Septentrion, it publishes original works of academic research and criticism devoted to literature, from all periods and all geographical and linguistic areas, with a more sustained but not exclusive attention to modern and contemporary french and francophone literature. All methodological approaches are accepted, provided they are scientifically rigorous and of high quality in terms of writing and readability. Faithful to its title, the Review implements the dialogue between literature and humanities and social sciences, and is open to the relations between literature and other artistic disciplines. Each issue consists of a thematic feature on the work of a writer or on a transversal issue. The journal does not publish isolated articles. In addition to these scientific studies, it welcomes reflective contributions from writers, offers interviews, and, more occasionally, publishes archives or unpublished literary texts.Reviews of critical works complete the issues.
