Ymer
University of Stockholm · Sweden · Est. 1881
Aims & Scope
Ymer is a yearbook published annually by the Swedish Society for Anthropology and Geography (SSAG). It consists of approximately ten chapters per volume, centered around a specific theme and written primarily by researchers. The journal is in Swedish and targets members, researchers, students, and the general public. Ymer is increasingly used in teaching at various universities and colleges in Sweden. The yearbook is named after the giant Ymer from Norse mythology, from whose body Odin created the earth. It is also named after the ship used by Swedish explorer Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld on his 1876 polar expedition to the Yenisei River. Members of SSAG receive Ymer in print annually. Recent print editions can be purchased from SSAG, and all issues are available for free download in PDF format. Ymer is also available in many libraries.
