Aims & Scope

About the Journal Focus and Scope ACTA is a bilingual (English and Italian), broad-scoped journal covering a wide range of topics related to archeology, art, and cultural history of the pre- and early modern world, often, but not necessarily related to Rome, Italy, and the Mediterranean. ACTA has an emphasis on material and visual culture. Contributions deal with empirical, methodological, theoretical, and interpretative questions. ACTA encourages the submission of articles, proposals for special issues. The series of supplement volumes may also include monographs. History of the Journal ACTA was established in 1962 and has run continuously since then, albeit in different formats. Until 1984, the series included both monographs and anthologies. They were published in quarter format at irregular intervals. From 1984, the quarter format was reserved for monument publications, while other types of monographs and article volumes were published in an octavo series ( series altera ). In 2001, ACTA became a journal rather than a series, and from 2015 on, issues appear both electronically and in print. The electronic publication is open access, integrated into the Open Journal Systems publishing platform. Peer-Review Process ACTA practices double-blind peer review and applies a high academic standard for academic publishing. The ACTA editors make an initial appraisal of each individual submission within four weeks . If the topic and quality level of the paper are appropriate to the editorial policies of the journal, the manuscript will be sent to two reviewers . The editors select reviewers based on competence on the topic, suggestions by the author and previous experience in reviewing manuscripts for ACTA. The peer-review process, however, is double-blind, whereby both referees and authors are kept anonymous. The editors of ACTA are committed to ensuring integrity in the peer-review process.
