Aims & Scope

Studia Maritima is a peer-reviewed open access journal dedicated to interdisciplinary research on broadly understood maritime issues. The annual journal was founded in 1978 by the Committee of Historical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. It is currently published by the University of Szczecin. The journal serves as a platform for the exchange of scholarly ideas in the fields of maritime history, maritime economy, maritime law, culture, and literature related to the sea , with a special (though not exclusive) focus on the Baltic Sea region. We publish articles by authors from Poland, Europe, and non-European countries. We publish original research articles, review papers, and book reviews in areas such as: maritime history and navigation history, ports and coastal cities, coastal communities, maritime law and shipping taxation, maritime economy and logistics, maritime culture and literature, marine environment and climate change. To ensure the widest possible academic reach, Studia Maritima publishes articles in English.
