Aims & Scope
medien & zeit is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed, open-access journal based in Vienna with personnel and institutional ties to the Institute for Journalism and Communication Studies at the University of Vienna. Since 1986, it has been dedicated to theories, methods, and topics of communication research in all their diversity, considering them integratively from a historical perspective. The journal thus promotes the breadth of traditions in the field of communication history as well as the dialogue between them and with contemporary communication research. It offers a forum for reflection on the dynamics and development of political and socio-cultural frameworks, organizational forms, types, patterns, content, and effects and consequences of processes of mediatized social communication in the past and present. It emphasizes the need for a historical focus on developments, constants, and change in social and media communication. medien & zeit strives to reflect the breadth of intellectual traditions in the broad field of communication history and to promote dialogue between them as well as with contemporary communication research. Since 2014, the journal has established the Research Corner section, which serves to promote young talent and is managed by staff from the Institute for Journalism and Communication Studies at the University of Vienna.
