Književna smotra prvi je hrvatski časopis orijentiran na svjetsku književnost. Časopis sustavno prati događaje i kretanja u stranim književnostima te istražuje hrvatske književne i kulturne veze sa svijetom, pri čemu posebnu pozornost posvećuje novostima na području znanosti o književnosti i tekuće svjetske literarne produkcije.
