Materia Arquitectura
Universidad San Sebastian · Chile
Aims & Scope
Materia Arquitectura is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal, published semiannually by the School of Architecture of Universidad San Sebastián, Chile. Its objective is to foster critical and experimental research on architecture and related disciplines, understood not only as a design practice, but as a cultural, social, political, and technical field in constant transformation. The journal publishes original articles, visual essays, interviews, and reviews that contribute to rethinking the foundations, discourses, and methods of contemporary architecture. Its editorial focus is oriented towards opening new questions and perspectives on architectural practice and theory, urban design, landscape, heritage, space technologies, visual culture, and project pedagogies, among other topics. Each issue of Materia Arquitectura is organized around a thematic focus proposed by guest editors, who curate contributions linking architecture with fields such as art, philosophy, literature, cinema, geography, history, anthropology, or social sciences. In this way, the journal seeks to expand the boundaries of architectural thought and promote an informed, rigorous, and proactive interdisciplinary dialogue. Unlike other journals focused exclusively on architectural production, Materia Arquitectura promotes a critical, situated, and experimental view of the discipline, articulating research from both the Latin American context and other geographies. From its base in Chile, the journal seeks to amplify voices emerging from the global South, contributing to diversify architectural epistemologies and enrich international debates from other latitudes.
