Aims & Scope

The journal “ Library Bulletin ” ( Bibliotechnyi Visnyk ) is a periodical, peer-reviewed scholarly journal (theoretical and applied) that publishes articles in the field of B13 Library, Information and Archival Studie s (Cluster: Human Capital Development, Social Sciences and Journalism ). The journal addresses current issues in the development of libraries and library and information activities, bibliography and national bibliography, book studies, document studies, information science, and other disciplines within the communication sciences, particularly in the context of social communications. "Library Bulletin" was founded in 1993 by V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine (VNLU) and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine . Its first issue was published to mark the 75th anniversary of both institutions and was regarded as the first specialized professional journal on library and book studies in independent Ukraine, as well as a successor to “Bibliolohichni Visti” (published in the 1920s–1930s). The journal is dedicated to presenting both theoretical research and practical experience in library activities, highlighting key directions and trends in the development of libraries and the library sector in historical and contemporary contexts. It explores the specific features of different types of libraries in Ukraine and worldwide, their integration into the system of social communications, their contribution to the development of the social sciences and humanities, and the strengthening of their role and functions in the modern digital society. The journal’s thematic scope includes research and practice in library and book studies, including: general issues of library science; libraries and society; library collections and information technologies; libraries in the digital society and within social communication systems; research, methodological, and international activities of libraries and library associations; library networks in Ukraine; cataloguing in research libraries; library and scientific information services; preservation and digitization of cultural heritage collections and the creation of digital collections; historical libraries and collections; library sources of printed and manuscript heritage and their scholarly description; the structure and content of multi-aspect library collections; scholarly publishing, collection development, and acquisitions; the library profession and education; library terminology; the history of librarianship and libraries; libraries worldwide; international book exchange, etc. The journal also publishes studies on the implementation of modern information and communication technologies and sociocultural practices, as well as the development of the library and information space. Considerable attention is paid to various aspects of the library environment in the media and information space, sociocultural activities, promotion of collections, and the expansion of libraries’ presence within different systems of social communications. Many publications in " Library Bulletin" result from interdisciplinary research involving library professionals and specialists from related fields of the social sciences. Special thematic issues are also published.
