Aims & Scope
Sexuality & Culture is a leading international multidisciplinary journal that publishes excellent empirical and theoretical research on the topic of sexuality and culture, broadly conceived. The journal is inclusive of diverse theoretical, methodological and disciplinary approaches, concerned primarily with the systematic and rigorous study of sexuality as it is situated in cultures, at local, national and international levels. The journal publishes peer-reviewed original research on all topics of sexuality and the intersection with socio-cultural activities, forces and institutions, and the cultural processes that impact on individuals’ experiences of the sexual. This will include research on sexual desire, practices and identities; sexual fantasy; heterosexuality; LGBTQI+ issues; organizations and institutions; policy and the law; ethics and consent; relationships; digital sexuality and technology; intersectionality; consumption; pornography; pleasure, joy and benefits associated with sexuality; among other issues. The distinctiveness of the journal is in its treatment of both sexuality and culture . Therefore, while the journal welcomes disciplines including sociology, criminology, education, psychology, law, cultural studies, allied health and cognate disciplines and subdisciplines, it will not publish research that considers sexuality topics without being situated in their cultural context. The journal also adopts an inclusive approach and will not publish articles that delegitimize sexual and gender diversity or that run counter to achieving sexual equality.
