Géographie et Cultures
L’Harmattan · France · Est. 1992
Aims & Scope
Géographie et cultures is a journal that explores the intersection of geography and culture. It publishes research on how cultural practices, places, and knowledge are legitimized, made visible, or marginalized, and how they participate in the production of power relations. The journal features empirical investigations on various contexts such as heritage dyeing, environmental mobilizations, scientific mediation, cultural institutions, and urban projects. It examines the concrete modalities through which power is constructed, disseminated, and transformed in situated contexts, highlighting ordinary powers, institutionalized powers, and hybrid forms. The journal also debates the conditions for recognizing cultural practices, questioning who can define 'culture,' for what purposes, and at the cost of what exclusions. It pays attention to places, categories, and devices that unequally distribute agency, offering a critical and situated reading of the relationships between culture and power in contemporary geographies.
