Aims & Scope
Structural Engineering and Mechanics (SEM) is an international journal dedicated to the advancement of the science, technology, and applications of structural engineering and mechanics. The journal covers a broad range of fields, including civil, mechanical, aerospace, ocean and offshore, robotics, and biomechanical systems. It provides a platform for rapid peer review and the global dissemination of high-quality research, fostering collaboration between academia and industry. The journal particularly welcomes submissions from both practicing engineers and interdisciplinary researchers. SEM publishes original theoretical, experimental, and computational studies on the mechanics, design, analysis, and optimization of structures, systems, and mechanisms. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: Structural mechanics and multi-scale/multi-physics modeling Numerical simulation methods such as the Finite Element Method (FEM), High-Performance Computing (HPC), and reduced-order modeling Structural safety, reliability, and resilience under multi-hazard conditions (e.g., seismic, wind, wave, impact, blast, thermal, and combined loads) Advanced structural materials, including composites, smart/adaptive materials, sustainable/low-carbon solutions, and soft and bio-inspired structures Biomechanics and biomedical engineering, encompassing tissue mechanics, biomedical devices, and bio-inspired systems Life-cycle assessment and climate resilience in structural systems Design, optimization, and control of structures in civil, mechanical, aerospace, ocean and offshore, mechatronic, and robotic systems Digital twin technology, structural health monitoring, virtual sensing and predictive maintenance Fluid-structure, soil-structure, and aeroelastic interactions in systems such as offshore platforms, wind turbines, aircraft, bridges, and biomedical devices Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven approaches applied to structural analysis, design, and monitoring Advanced manufacturing technologies, such as additive manufacturing (including 3D printing), for structural and mechanical systems
