Sud-Ouest Europeen
Presses Universitaires du Mirail · France · Est. 1998
Aims & Scope
Sud-Ouest Européen is an interuniversity journal of geography published by the geography institutes of the universities of Toulouse, Bordeaux, Pau, and Perpignan. Its headquarters and main direction are at the University Toulouse – Jean Jaurès. Starting in 1998, it succeeded the Revue géographique des Pyrénées et du Sud-Ouest (RGPSO) founded in 1930 by Daniel Faucher, in Toulouse. The RGPSO, which was published for over 60 years, was one of the major regional geography journals that had a quasi-monopoly on research and publications concerning the southwest of France, the Pyrenees, and the Iberian Peninsula. These works often resulted in original cartography. Sud-Ouest Européen clearly follows the editorial continuity of the RGPSO, of which it is also the depositary. The journal's mission has always been to publish scientific work relating to the southwest of France, Spain, and Portugal. The change in the journal's name illustrates a clear desire for increased openness to the Iberian Peninsula, which is also reflected in the international nature of its scientific and editorial committees. In these geographical areas, Sud-Ouest Européen thus constitutes a publication opportunity for young researchers from the four universities of the Southwest, but also for young Portuguese and Spanish researchers, especially since the journal is not a priori closed to the possibility of publishing in Spanish. Similarly, while Sud-Ouest Européen publishes articles mainly concerning the southwest of France and the Iberian Peninsula, it can also host theoretical articles or articles referring to another space if they present a general interest on a theme chosen for an issue. The journal, due to its accessibility and the diversity of its themes, is likely to reach a particularly varied audience: academics and professionals, planners-urbanists, geographers, sociologists, but also secondary school teachers looking for examples in this region of Europe.
