Aims & Scope
Aestimatiobegan in 2004 as an open access review journal (Aestimatio: Critical Reviews in theHistory of Science) and continued as such until 2019. By then, our readers and the editors of the journal had come to see the value of, and need for, a journalwith the same ambit that allowed for closer discussion of work in the field and of the researchunderlying that work. Our response was the creation in 2020 of a new, immediately open accessseries,Aestimatio: Sources and Studies in the History of Science, with its three major divisions ofcontent: Sources, Studies, and Discussions. All three are peer-reviewed contributions thatadvance the Field. Sources typically involve the introduction, translation, and analysis ofrelevant texts in their original languages.Studies address issues in the understanding of suchsources. Discussions typically concern more general issues in the field raised by particularstudies, e.g., “Greek and Latin Astrological Poetry Reconsidered” by Stephan Heilen (Aestimatio4:1–74). There are also book reviews, as before. Access and DistributionThis journal provides immediate Diamond open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. In addition to its being distributed freely online, the journal is archived in theLibrary and Archives of Canada.
