Aims & Scope

About the Journal Estudos do Século XX / Twentieth Century Studies (TCS), published by CEIS20 “ research centre recently evaluated with Excellent by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) “ is an annual peer-reviewed international journal focusing on the processes of memory, theory and representation of the twentieth century. The journal aims to open a field of studies on the past century, here defined not so much as a historical period, but rather a site of memory and patrimony, an object of literary and artistic representation, and a political and theoretical concept. From this perspective, the journal is a forum of discussion on the ways the present, in the twenty-first century, situates and defines itself in relation to the recent past, namely in ongoing debates on the periodization of contemporary history and through the emergence of new sources, archives and historical mediations. TCS welcomes articles with a strong interdisciplinary edge, from a broad range of approaches that include (but are not restricted to) history and memory, art history, cultural studies, literature, philosophy, media studies, pedagogy, digital humanities, economy, social sciences, climate and the environment, sciences and technology, urban studies and mobilities. Articles may be submitted in English, Portuguese, French, Italian, or Spanish. This journal is indexed and cataloged in Latindex and the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences. Peer Review Process All items accepted by the Editorial Board will be submitted to a system of anonymous referees, entrusted to two external reviewers. If necessary, a third reviewer will be auscultated. In light of advice received the Editorial Board may determine that the authors adopt the suggestions contained in them and, ultimately, may decline to accept the text. Open Access Policy This journal offers immediate free access to its contents. We strongly believe that free and public access to scientific knowledge is fun
