Journal of Social Studies
Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta · Indonesia · Est. 2016
Aims & Scope
JSS positions itself as a scholarly platform dedicated to advancing critical social studies on Indonesia and the Global South . Unlike general social science journals, JSS focuses on contextual and interdisciplinary analyses of social, political, cultural, and educational dynamics that shape citizenship, democracy, and social transformation in developing societies. The journal seeks to bridge global theoretical debates with empirical realities in Indonesia and comparable regions, highlighting perspectives that are often underrepresented in mainstream academic discourse. By promoting research grounded in local contexts while engaging with international scholarship, JSS contributes to the development of knowledge on democratic participation, social justice, and civic life in the Global South. Through rigorous peer review and interdisciplinary dialogue, JSS aims to become a leading reference for scholars interested in citizenship, governance, and social change in emerging societies , particularly within Southeast Asia and other developing regions.
