Aims & Scope

Basic Plasma Physics and New Trends Basic physics and phenomenology of plasmas (in the laboratory as well as in nature) constitutes this category. Emerging fields such as high energy density physics (plasmas under extreme conditions generated by intense laser/particle beams), laboratory simulations of astrophysical plasmas are welcome additions to this area of plasma physics. The journal will provide a channel for experimental and theoretical papers on scientific foundations along with related technologies, diagnostics, and mathematical/computational methods. Innovative and new trends in plasma physics are also included in this category. -> top 2. Magnetic Confinement Fusion (Experiment) The vast area of experimental research relevant to the program of controlled thermonuclear fusion via magnetic confinement defines this section. The journal seeks contributions in all of the following topics: phenomenology of various magnetic-confinement devices, heating and current drive, control and operation, plasma wall interaction, diagnostics and innovative concepts of magnetic fusion. Technological reports on development of instruments, equipment and devices for magnetic fusion research are also invited. -> top 3. Magnetic Confinement Fusion (Theory) Theoretical research on magnetically confined fusion plasmas, by analytical and numerical methods, falls in this category. A short list of representative topics is: plasma phenomena in magnetic-confinement devices, stability and transport, heating and current drive, control and operation, plasma wall interaction, diagnostics, and innovative concepts for magnetic fusion. In addition, the papers devoted to the theoretical analysis of both the current and future experiments and devices, such as ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor), will be published. -> top 4. Inertial Fusion Energy This category covers experimental and theoretical research relevant to fusion via inertial confinement caused by lasers or particle beams. The area spans target fabrication, diagnostics, energy drivers, interactions of plasmas with laser/particle beams, and implosion physics leading to inertial confinement. Theoretical analysis and simulation studies on these subjects are also within the scope of this category. -> top 5. Fusion Engineering The journal will also publish papers on all areas of fusion engineering including fusion material development, tritium breeding/control, energy conversion, shielding, neutronics, nuclear data, first wall/divertor and plasma facing component, magnets (superconducting or otherwise), irradiation facilities and tests, heating/current drive power sources, safety and environment, remote handling, control and data acquisition, new concepts and reactor design. Design/engineering or R&D reports for components of facilities under construction are also welcome. -> top 6. Applied Plasma Physics The subjects for this part of the journal are various plasma applications such as generation of coherent and incoherent radiation, particle beam generation, propulsion, materials processing, plasma chemistry, environment, waste remediation, and innovative application of plasma to other research fields. Papers dealing with experimental, theoretical, and simulation studies on these topics are eagerly sought. -> top
