It provides basic geological data and information for the nation's economic and social development, and in response to public demand, CGS currently publishes three academic journals; the Chinese-language titlesGeology in ChinaandGeological Bulletin of China, andChina Geology, which is published in English. TheChinese Academy of Geological Sciences (CAGS)is a non-profit-making institution. It engages in geoscience research, carries out knowledge and technological innovation, and undertakes public-welfare and basic geological work, along with exploration and evaluation of strategic mineral resources. It was founded in 1956 and reorganised in 1999. CAGS is devoted to scientific investigations and research on a wide range of topics, including basic, mineral deposit, environmental and karst geology, hydrogeology, exploration geophysics and exploration geochemistry.
