Aims & Scope

SPOOL is a journal initiative in the field of architecture and the built environment. It places strong emphasis on four key topics: Science of Architecture, Landscape Metropolis, Energy Innovation, and Cyber-physical Architecture. These four topics reflect existing and emerging research programs and interests in Europe and beyond, ensuring a steady stream of potential contributions. By treating these topics as interconnected threads within a single journal, SPOOL is able to focus on the relationships between these fields—connections that are often overlooked in more specialized journals. Within this framework, SPOOL welcomes original papers and associated open data on research addressing interventions in architecture and the built environment through design, engineering, and/or planning.

A twelfth criterion — whether APC fees are clearly disclosed — is not scored here; it is left out of the total rather than counted as a failure. Publication charges appear in the metrics card above.
