Aims & Scope

About the Journal The Malaysian Journal of International Relations (MJIR) (eISSN 2600-8181 ) is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal published biannually by the Department of International and Strategic Studies , Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Malaya. The MJIR welcomes original contributions related to international relations, foreign policy, diplomacy, political science, international political economy, strategic and security studies, and related fields, to be considered for publication. In particular, the journal welcomes manuscripts with a focus on international relations in the Asia-Pacific. Aims and Scope The world of international politics in the 21st century is a dynamic one, presenting both challenges and opportunities. Contemporary developments highlight the threat of nuclear proliferation, terrorism, climate change, and the lingering effects of global financial crises. Nowhere are these issues more visible than in the Asia Pacific region, which has emerged as a central arena for power competition, economic transformation, and evolving security architectures. Equally, the Asia Pacific offers opportunities for advancing multilateral cooperation, nuclear disarmament, crisis resolution, and sustainable development. Along these lines, the objectives of the MJIR are to promote academic platforms for scholars of international relations and strategic studies, offering them a channel to publish research, original thought, and commentary. MJIR further aims to stimulate scholarly debate and foster deeper intellectual engagement with international relations, with particular attention to the Asia-Pacific, while remaining open to comparative and global perspectives.
