Quaderni di Scienze Politiche
EDUCatt · Italy · Est. 2011
Aims & Scope
The Quaderni are inspired by a scientific tradition oriented towards the study of political phenomena, in their institutional and organizational expressions, at the international level and within States. The founder of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Father Agostino Gemelli, stated in 1942 that law, history, and politics constitute "a tripod" on which the Faculties of Political Sciences are founded, whose identity and function he defended. About twenty years later, Francesco Vito, successor to the founder as Rector and previously Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences, stated: "We remain faithful to the scientific tradition according to which the investigation of the political phenomenon cannot be exhausted without residue by a single scientific discipline. Historical, philosophical, legal, and socio-economic studies contribute to the understanding of politics". For Gianfranco Miglio, Dean for thirty years of the Faculty of Political Sciences of the Università Cattolica, history is the privileged laboratory of political science research. As a characteristic image of the Quaderni's internationalist vocation, the map drawn in 1507 by the German cartographer Martin Waldseemüller (1470-1521) was chosen, of great historical importance as it is the first in which the New Continent discovered by Christopher Columbus is named "America". In 2005 this map was declared "Memory of the World" by UNESCO. The journal "Quaderni di Scienze Politiche", in full continuity with the previous "Quaderni del Dipartimento di Scienze Politiche", has been placed by Anvur (National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research System) in the list of Class A Scientific Journals for the Competitive Sectors 14/B1 – History of political doctrines and institutions and 14 B/2 – History of international relations, non-European societies and institutions.
