Aims & Scope

Geochronology (GChron) is a not-for-profit international scientific journal dedicated to the discussion and publication of high-quality research on the physical, chemical, and biological processes used to quantify time in all environmental and geological settings throughout Earth's history. Geochronology (GChron) is a not-for-profit open-access open-review journal providing a unified outlet for high-quality basic and applied research in geochronology, independent of technique used or timescale considered. Geochronology publishes research in all aspects of geoscience that aim to determine times or rates of geologic events and processes: basic research into fundamental physics and chemistry of geologic dating methods; novel applications across the full range of geosciences; and developments in standardization and intercomparison, statistical methods, data management, and computational infrastructure. Geochronology aims to encourage and sustain innovation in geochronology by providing a centralized communication platform that transcends specific fields of application and focuses on the common theme of quantifying geologic time.

A twelfth criterion — whether APC fees are clearly disclosed — is not scored here; it is left out of the total rather than counted as a failure. Publication charges appear in the metrics card above.

Frequently asked questions about Geochronology

Is Geochronology a predatory journal?

PubScope has no integrity flags on record for Geochronology: it is indexed in Web of Science, Scopus, DOAJ, and is not on DOAJ's withdrawn list. Indexing is a transparency signal, not a guarantee — always confirm fit and policies before submitting.

What is the impact factor of Geochronology?

Geochronology is indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection, so Clarivate publishes an official Journal Impact Factor for it (since the 2023 Journal Citation Reports, every Core Collection journal — including Arts & Humanities and Emerging Sources titles — receives one). PubScope links to Clarivate's official source rather than reprinting the number, which can be out of date. Its open 2-year mean citedness is 2.86.
