Aims & Scope
Gnosi: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Human Theory and Praxis is a biannual (January–June and July–December) anonymous double-blind peer-reviewed academic journal based in the Department of Philosophy, University of Calabar, Nigeria. Established in 2018, Gnosi has been committed to fostering global scholarly discourse by publishing theoretical, methodological, and empirically grounded research papers that contribute to cross-disciplinary debates within the Humanities and Social Sciences. The journal publishes articles in English and French, catering to an international audience. Beginning with its January–June 2025 issue, Gnosi will exclusively focus on specialized fields within the Humanities to enhance its scholarly rigor and international appeal. The selected areas of focus include: Digital Humanities Environmental Humanities Medical Humanities Cultural Heritage Studies Indigenous Studies Political & Economic Humanities in Africa These domains reflect the meaning of Gnosi —derived from " gnosis ," symbolizing knowledge and intellectual inquiry—by addressing underrepresented yet crucial areas in humanistic research that bridge theoretical understanding and practical application. As an international journal, Gnosi emphasizes that robust theoretical frameworks and rigorous methodologies are critical for impactful academic practice. It welcomes critical texts, including book reviews, alongside research articles that meet its high scholarly standards. Both quantitative and qualitative studies—grounded in either positivist or humanist methodologies—are considered, provided they adhere to the journal’s stringent peer-review process.
