Aims & Scope

The journal welcomes original fundamental research articles and discusses recent advances in applied chemistry. The main emphasis is on new, complete, and more applicable research findings. The Catalysis section includes experimental research on heterogeneous, molecular, and biocatalysts used in chemicals, energy, materials, food, pharmaceuticals, and environmental protection. The Environmental Chemical Engineering section features articles on process engineering and advanced environmental chemistry, such as waste-to-energy, pollution control, advanced oxidation processes, separation processes, pollutant adsorption, resource recovery, CO2 capture and utilization, and micro (nano) detection and remediation of plastics. The Chemical Reaction Engineering section includes articles on a wide range of topics, such as reaction kinetics, process intensification, unsteady-state reactors, multiphase reactors, simulation and optimization of various types of reactors, and fundamental studies of heat and mass and momentum transfer processes accompanying chemical reactions. New reactor designs and materials, as well as creative research projects addressing important aspects of reactor engineering and the development of reactor technologies such as membrane reactors, chromatographic reactors, unconventional fluidized bed reactors, electrochemical reactors, microreactors, photoreactors, fuel cells, enzymatic reactors, etc., are particularly encouraged. Works based solely on theoretical work will not be considered. The Green and Sustainable Science and Engineering section features articles that demonstrate innovative scientific and engineering approaches for a sustainable future for humans and the environment. This section covers, but is not limited to, the following topics: new materials and methods for the conversion of environmentally friendly resources (e.g., oil, gas, coal, biomass, plastics, and syngas); green and integrated system methods for clean and renewable energy production (e.g., biofuels and H2), air purification, advanced water and solid waste treatment, resource recovery (e.g., nutrients, heavy metals, rare earth elements, and energy), the relationship between energy, food, and water; and innovative methods for the separation, purification, and storage of greenhouse gases (e.g., CO2 and CH4), and intermediates/byproducts. Articles detailing the creation of new functional materials and/or material processing techniques with proven real-world applications are accepted for review in the New Materials for Energy and Advanced Applications section. An experimental component is essential for all reviewed articles, even if theoretical calculations are welcome. Any article addressing one of the following topics may be considered, such as: materials for sensors, such as optical, biomedical, electrochemical, gas, strain, biosensors, and optical sensors, as long as the focus is on the creation of new materials. Materials for use in biomedicine, including tissue engineering, photothermal/photodynamic therapy, drug delivery, and nanomedicine. Functional polymer composites (flame retardant, adhesive, durable, thermal management, electromagnetic shielding, shape memory, or self-healing materials with proven applications). Functional surfaces, such as coatings that prevent corrosion, antimicrobial surfaces, anti-icing surfaces, and superhydrophobic/self-cleaning surfaces. Resources for fuel production via photocatalysis or electrocatalysis (water splitting, nitrogen fixation, CO2 reduction). Solar cell materials, such as dye-sensitized solar cells, perovskites, and organic cells. Electrochemical energy storage materials, such as dielectric capacitors, supercapacitors, flow batteries, and primary and secondary batteries. Materials (phase change materials, energy storage materials, thermoelectric devices) for thermal/thermochemical energy storage and conversion. Energetic materials (propellants, explosives). Materials for electrocatalytic processes, such as hydrogen/oxygen evolution and water splitting. Materials that emit and filter light, such as photodetectors, electrochromic materials, optical thermometers, and LEDs and OLEDs.
