About the Journal Aim of the Journal The Journal of Central Asian Studies aims to support emerging researchers by providing a platform for studying regional developments and international relations in Central Asia. Its readership includes researchers, academics, policymakers, and practitioners working on issues related to the region. Scope of the Journal The journal welcomes original research articles, reviews, and commentaries on topics: The international relations of Central Asian states, including foreign policy strategies, diplomacy, and regional alliances; Issues of international security and regional cooperation; Domestic political developments with a focus on governance, policy-making, and the role of social, economic, environmental, and cultural dynamics in shaping public decision-making. History of the Journal The Journal of Central Asian Studies, formerly known as Central Asia's Affairs, is a peer-reviewed academic journal published in English by the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan . It has been in circulation since March 2003 and has been rebranded as the Journal of Central Asian Studies as of February 2024. In 2008, it began its journey toward open access by making its content available online for the first time. In 2016, it took a significant step by adopting a full open-access model, allowing it to publish full-text articles directly on its website. This transition greatly enhanced accessibility for researchers, practitioners, and academics around the world, facilitating easier access to valuable research and ensuring a wider distribution of knowledge. A major milestone for the journal was achieved in September 2021 when it was officially listed in the List of Publications Recommended by the Quality Assurance Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
