Aims & Scope
The Anuario de Estudios Centroamericanos (AECA) is an open-access academic journal published by the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Costa Rica. It is a continuous publication presented in electronic format. It is one of the few publications on Central America from a regional perspective, covering topics related to the analysis of the historical and present reality of the Central American region and its societies. The Anuario is an international publication. Its pages accommodate articles, essays, and reviews from an interdisciplinary perspective across the broad spectrum of social sciences and culture in general, both within and outside the region. The central objective is to understand Central American societies from diverse perspectives: economic, social, political, and cultural, to obtain scientific and academic explanations for the main problems affecting the region or characterizing it through its traditions, material and immaterial culture, populations and ethnic groups, gender, and environment, among other aspects. This publication provides a DOI to each article. Its funding comes from the University of Costa Rica. The AECA is aimed at people interested in the current and historical reality of the Central American region.
