Aims & Scope
Il castello di Elsinore is a biannual journal of theatre deeply rooted in Italian Universities. Founded in 1988, it is curated by DAMS (Department of Artistic, Musical and Performing Arts) of the University of Turin. The journal's editorial board included almost half of the full professors of Theatre History in Italy and distinguished scholars from foreign universities. Since 2008, it has been published by Edizioni di Pagina. The journal is divided into three sections: the first, titled Saggi, includes rigorous critical studies on characters and works from the history of theatre and performance; the second, Materiali, collects and curates documents, letters, and reflections on poetics; the third, Libri (or Polemiche), reviews and analyzes the most significant events of the Italian and foreign theatre season. The themes covered by the journal are varied and span the entire history of European theatre, from Greek theatre to the Commedia dell’Arte, from Italian Renaissance theatre to the Nordic theatre of Ibsen and Strindberg, from European symbolism to Pirandello.
