Amoxtli
Ariadna Ediciones · Chile
Aims & Scope
Amoxtli focuses on the history of publishing and reading, and the circulation of ideas, covering both the past and the present, in their diverse forms, formats, and supports. The concept of “publishing” is understood as the integral process of selection, organization, production, analysis, and circulation of legible or interpretable content, intended for different audiences. This content ranges from books, pamphlets, magazines, and newspapers, to inserts, flyers, posters, and occasional publications. Furthermore, considering the transformations brought about by the internet and digital applications, Amoxtli broadens its scope to incorporate these innovations in the study of publishing and reading. The journal's preferred geographical and sociocultural space is Ibero and Indo-American, with Spanish and Portuguese as the main languages of communication, although articles in English are also accepted. Amoxtli defines itself as a regional international initiative, both in its study base and its potential readership. Thematic axes include: public and literate discursive culture, its material and transmission supports; the presence and modes of reception and use of printed material originating outside the region; the (material) production of the printed object, its graphic and technological characteristics over time; the variety of publishing actors and the construction of discourse communities; the articulation of reading, intellectual, and social influence spaces; the construction of audiences and recipients in different eras; the development of literary criticism; the figure of the publisher, their role and functions; publishing, public policies, and international organizations of books and reading; the publishing market, distribution and consumption circuits; libraries and access to books and reading; reading and its role in shaping citizenship and society; devices of control and censorship in the world of publishing; publishing and reading in the current circumstances of technological innovations; advertising and propaganda.
