Aims & Scope

Opera Slavica is a peer-reviewed scientific journal whose main mission is to make a broad communication platform covering all Slavic languages and literatures for researching Slavic philology with overlaps to translatology, cultural studies, and many other humanities and social sciences, and to cultivate main topics and new methodological approaches in the area of European Slavonic Studies. Issues of the journal are therefore open to not only purely linguistic or literary topics but also papers with significant interdisciplinary overlap. The Reviews section systematically monitors and critically reviews the relevant works of linguistic and literary Slavic Studies. The journal is published by Masaryk University (The Department of Slavonic Studies, Faculty of Arts of MU) from 1991. There are published two issues a year in print and electronic form. The journal has four sections: Studies (including thematic block), Discussion and Review Articles, Reviews and News. The thematic block includes at least 4 longer papers on a pre-selected and well in advance announced topic, reflecting current research issues, ongoing debates, important scholarly and cultural events, and anniversaries. This thematic block is then followed by other papers. The journal accepts texts written in any Slavic language as well as in English and German. All papers in Studies section (including thematic block) undergo anonymous peer review, which is carried out at the request of the Executive Editorial Board by a group of lecturers comprising Czech and foreign scholars. Full texts of articles are available in theDigital Library of the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, which is the primary source and repository of academic publications at the Faculty of Arts. The journal websites (built in Open Journal Systems) contain links to the fulltext articles archived in the Digital Library. The journal website is used mainly as a presentation platform for accessing all the information about the journal.
