Aims & Scope
Individual and Society [Človek a spoločnosť] is a peer-reviewed diamond open-access journal (free of author and reader fees) published by the Institute of Social Sciences of the Centre of Social and Psychological Sciences of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Košice since 1998. The journal is published biannually – July, December (quarterly by 2022) and publishes original research articles in English. Profile and Thematic Focus: Core disciplines – psychology and history. The journal accepts contributions from both fields, whether they are exclusively psychological or exclusively historical in nature. However, it pays particular attention to research that connects individual psychological processes with historical, social, and cultural contexts, thereby enriching our understanding of social phenomena and offering original perspectives on their development and contemporary manifestations. Interdisciplinarity – we welcome manuscripts that transcend the boundaries of traditional disciplines in the social sciences and humanities (e.g., sociology, anthropology, cultural studies) and bring innovative theoretical or methodological approaches to the study of humans in their historical-social context. Regional context – the core focus is on Central Europe (with attention to its historical intersections of cultures, regimes, and conflicts). This intention corresponds with the scientific priorities of the publishing institution – the Institute of Social Sciences CSPS SAS. The journal is also open to comparative and global studies that expand knowledge about the region. Types of Contributions: Empirical studies (both quantitative and qualitative) Theoretical and review articles Methodological contributions (including innovative research tools) Discussion essays and critical commentaries on current scholarly debates Reviews of monographs and significant sources from psychology, history, and related disciplines Reports from scholarly events
