Aims & Scope
Since the 19th century, so-called developed countries have created a view of the natural environment that assumes domination over nature. Also, modern paradigms such as economic growth supremacy, consumer-centered lifestyles, and self-consciousness have become issues that hinder the building of a sustainable social environment for the next generation. Therefore, humans, who evaluate the external environment and act on it through adaptive behavior, are forced to change their conventional way of life. Furthermore, these changes in life require the creation of new ethical standards and the construction of new social and economic systems. The task imposed on researchers living in the modern age is to tackle these issues and develop new intellectual resources. The Society for Human Environmental Studies (SHES) was established to bring together researchers who play a part in these issues. Participants in SHES publish their activities in the Journal of Human Environmental Studies (JHES). JHES is an interdisciplinary academic journal, peer-reviewed and Open Access, that aims to create a new research field. It publishes research papers related to the mechanisms of human cognition of external environmental information, interactions between human groups and the environment, characteristics of social environments assumed in nature and history, and the creation of new logic, economic, and political systems.
