Aims & Scope
Engramma – full title: “La Rivista di Engramma. La tradizione classica nella memoria occidentale” (digital ISSN 1826-901X, print ISSN 2974-5535) – is the journal of the Centro studi classic A (Architecture, civilization, tradition of the classical) of the Iuav University of Venice. Engramma is directed by Monica Centanni, a Greek and classical philologist, professor of Iconology and classical tradition at the Iuav University of Venice. Since its origins, scholars from various disciplines, young researchers, and students have worked in the Engramma Editorial Office, taking care of all aspects of the publication, from text editing to graphics and layout. Founded in 2000, in parallel with the first iconological research of the Seminar on Classical Tradition (then active at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice; on the birth of Engramma see Editorial: Engramma from 0 to 100). Since 2002, the Engramma editorial office has been active at the Iuav University of Venice; since 2006 the Journal has been the scientific organ of classicA. Engramma is a scientific journal, its primary research fields are art and humanities. The areas include classical disciplines (Greek and Latin literature; modern literatures, archaeology, ancient history, classical philology, history of classical tradition), philosophy (particularly in reference to the thought and methodology of Aby Warburg; memory and history of war), visual and performing arts (art history, iconology, theater history, theater studies, performance studies, film studies, pop culture studies). Another main research area is architecture. Contributions are selected through calls for papers, individual invitations, and author proposals, and are subjected to peer review (see Editorial Policy and Procedures). The issues of the Journal are made available in PDF format on the Library page, which also presents other publication series connected to Engramma. Engramma has an International Advisory Board composed of internationally recognized scholars in the fields of humanities, ancient and classical studies, art history, architecture, philosophy, anthropology, theater and film history. Since its first issue (September 2000), the Journal has been published in electronic edition monthly (some issues bimonthly). In 2016, La Rivista di Engramma was recognized by Anvur (National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research System) of the Ministry of Education, University and Research among the 'Scientific Journals' for Area 8 (Civil Engineering and Architecture), Area 10 (Classical Antiquity, Philological-Literary and Historical-Artistic Sciences), Area 11 (Historical, Philosophical, Pedagogical and Psychological Sciences). Engramma has been recognized as a 'fascia A' journal: – since 2016 for sector 10/A1 (Archaeology); – since 2018 for sectors 10/B1 (Art History); 10/C1 (Theater, Music, Cinema, Television and Audiovisual Media); 10/D2 (Greek Language and Literature); 10/D3 (Latin Language and Literature); 10/D4 (Classical and Late Antique Philology); 10/E1 (Medieval Latin and Romance Philology and Literatures); 10/F4 (Literary Criticism and Comparative Literatures); – since 2021 for sector 08/D1 (Architectural Design). In 2006 Engramma received the E-Content Award | Italy. Since December 2015 Engramma has been included in the international DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journal) directory.
