Aims & Scope
Historias fingidas is an international journal promoted by the Mambrino Project that publishes international research on the Spanish chivalric novel, as a European phenomenon, beyond geographical and linguistic borders and pre-established critical barriers between literary genres and disciplines. The journal focuses on the Spanish chivalric novel as a privileged point of observation for the study of the European novel of ancien régime. The 16th-century chivalric fiction develops in a situation of strong imbalance between national literatures, which intertwine and confront each other, between verse and prose, in the vast territory marked by the hegemony of the Habsburg empire, where the borders between modern states are still unstable. The role of the libros de caballerías in this context has not yet been adequately defined. If in the past some deep-rooted prejudices contributed to the removal of these works from literary history manuals, in more recent times disciplinary boundaries hinder the dialogue that should, instead, lead to a clearer overall vision. The problem can be reopened with a different perspective, both specialized (directly focused on the libros de caballerías) and broad-horizoned, without geographical and linguistic frontiers (the chivalric novel as a European and Hispanic-American phenomenon) and without pre-established critical barriers between literary genres and disciplines; instead, following the paths dictated by the texts, accommodating them, letting them speak...
