Aims & Scope

Medioevi is a scientific journal that aims to be an ideal complement to the homonymous series founded in 1995. The series, which includes a section of Texts and one of Studies, has hosted over the years a series of monographs and miscellaneous volumes dedicated mainly to the in-depth study of various aspects of medieval literatures. The journal Medioevi therefore aims to continue the lines of research inaugurated by the series in parallel, while at the same time fostering interdisciplinary exchange. It remains firmly anchored to a philological-literary approach and is mainly aimed at the study of the languages and literatures of the European Middle Ages (Latin, Romance, and Germanic). However, the journal's objectives are also characterized by openness to other disciplinary sectors (historical and historical-artistic, anthropological, musicological) and attention to the plurality of approaches and methods (philological-literary, critical-stylistic, comparative). This apparently prismatic perspective actually aims at the convergence towards a single venue of investigations conducted with different tools, finding its unitary vanishing point in the guiding image chosen to represent the journal. The rose window, one of those designed in the 13th century by Villard de Honnecourt in his sketchbook (Livre de portraiture, ms. BnF, fr. 19093), refers not only to the complexity, stratification, and interferences of the 'cultures' that characterize the object of study, but also to an ideal circularity: that of a 'roonde table' around which different voices and skills can gather.
