Aims & Scope

IHiS (Indonesian Historical Studies) focuses on the Indonesian historiography and philosophy of history, emphasizing the critical examination, interpretation, and writing of history. It invites researcher contributions that explore history through diverse themes such as: Social and cultural history Economic and political history Military and diplomatic history Intellectual and environmental history History of ideas, gender, science, and religion Transnational, global, and comparative histories Philosophy of history, including reflections on the historical process, historical consciousness, and theoretical frameworks used in understanding the past. In addition to thematic diversity, IHiS (Indonesian Historical Studies) is committed to advancing the methodology of historical research. Submissions should demonstrate methodological clarity, whether through archival research, oral history, textual analysis, quantitative data, comparative frameworks, or interdisciplinary approaches. Authors are encouraged to critically reflect on the sources, tools, and theoretical lenses used in their work. By including both empirical studies and theoretical reflections, the journal aims to foster dialogue between historical practice and historical thought, contributing to a richer, more reflective understanding of Indonesia's past in a global context.
