Aims & Scope
LIMINA - Grazer theologische Perspektiven is the scientific Open Access journal of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Karl Franzens University of Graz. The thematic focus of LIMINA is on current transformation processes and is guided by the following questions: What are the most socially, culturally, politically, religiously, and ecclesiastically explosive changes and upheavals of the present? How can these be addressed from a theological perspective? In what way do they require innovative methodological and interdisciplinary approaches? How do these changes and conflicts transform theology itself? LIMINA is experimentally oriented but pursues the claim of systematic processing of the given problem constellations. Aware of the many effective late-modern antagonisms, it is committed to a system-critical hermeneutics, not only with regard to secular and post-secular social or political developments, but also with regard to religious and academic immanent system formations. The subject of the contributions published in the journal are therefore primarily current transformation phenomena, which are considered, analyzed and reflected upon in the sense of the theological axiom of "exploring the signs of the times in the light of the Gospel" (Second Vatican Council, Constitution Gaudium et Spes 4), with the aim of a critical and constructive engagement for sustainable future perspectives or for a "new humanism". In addition to the contemporary relevance, methodological accents are decisive for the profile of our journal: Innovative, even unconventional questions and methods characterize the originality of the journal and aim at alternative forms of theological and interdisciplinary work that transcend the classical schemas and methodologies of the theological canon. Pressing contemporary questions often appear unusual and difficult to grasp from the perspective of this classical canon. They require unusual and innovative approaches that do not shy away from the risk of disciplinary and methodological boundary crossings and experiments. The concrete methodological orientation of the contributions is based on the problem areas addressed or the thematic focus of the respective issue according to the editorial guidelines.
