Aims & Scope

NuBE is a critical resource dedicated to contemporary literature, with particular reference to cultural phenomena and their connections with the dynamics of identity redefinition and hybridization that have affected Europe since the 1990s. NuBE aims to be a tool for discovering our contemporaneity through the investigation of new generations of writers, emerging literary cases, and current literary debates. Literature participates with its own voice in the discussions that characterize every era, reflecting its dynamics and shaping its content in turn. The contamination with historical, social, and cultural developments appears, however, more pronounced in contemporary literary production, where the traditional split between "high" and "low" literature is radically questioned in favor of a commingling of genres, registers, and media, which contributes to making literature an unavoidable element of the debate on contemporaneity. NuBE aims to address this investigation from this perspective, associating rigorous analysis of works with a militant interest in the contemporary. NuBE looks at the sensibilities and languages of literature as transnational phenomena that transcend ideologies and forms of ethnocentrism and are capable of founding social and community solidarities. Europe is not understood as an economic and political community, but rather as an idea of culture that extends beyond the boundaries established by bureaucracy. The mediating and unifying potential of the artistic gesture nullifies national and supranational barriers and imposes a comparative perspective in the investigation of the contemporary in its literary manifestations: a broad analytical gaze, open to the multiple cultural dynamics of the global world. NuBE proposes itself as a crossroads for comparison and integration between theoretical approaches and different disciplines. It is hoped that from the multiplicity of perspectives a complex and articulated picture of the various European realities will emerge, whose common orientations, points of conjunction, and differences will be understood and highlighted.
