Aims & Scope
Philanthropia is a bi-annual, peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal published by the Institute for Philanthropy and Civil Society of LCC International University. We publish scholarship on philanthropy and civil society from the perspective of the humanities and normative theory. We invite article submissions from researchers across various disciplines, including History, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Theology, Classical Studies, Philanthropic Studies, Literary Studies, Linguistics, Anthropology, Ethics, Communications, Rhetoric, and Political Theory. Philanthropia publishes research that explores the fundamental questions surrounding philanthropy and civil society through the lens of the humanities and normative theory. The journal provides a platform for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary scholarship that examines the ethical, philosophical, cultural, and historical dimensions of giving, voluntary action, and collective engagement. We seek contributions that address complex issues related to the values, principles, and narratives that shape philanthropic practices and the development of civil society, whether from a general theoretical perspective or in relation to specific cultural and historical contexts. Articles may explore themes such as the moral and symbolic foundations of giving, the role of philanthropy in societal transformation, and the evolution of ideas about collective responsibility and action. A particular focus is given to research that develops humanities-based methodologies and theoretical frameworks for advancing the understanding of philanthropy and civil society. This distinguishes Philanthropia as a journal uniquely situated to highlight the reflective and interpretive dimensions of these fields.
