Aims & Scope

Aniki: Revista Portuguesa da Imagem em Movimento is an international and interdisciplinary academic journal published, in electronic format only (online), twice a year (in January and July) by the Associação de Investigadores da Imagem em Movimento (AIM). Aniki was created to bring together international and Portuguese-speaking communities dedicated to the study of cinema and media. Accepting a wide range of empirical, historical and theoretical perspectives, the journal offers a specialized forum for the debate of all types of moving image, from auteur films, popular and alternative distribution films to television programs, videos, video games, digital cultures, sound and music in films, among other topics. The journal focuses on publishing original, quality, peer-reviewed research with open access in three international languages (English, Portuguese and Spanish) and is open to everyone. The editors are particularly interested in articles that are aware of and seek to contribute to major international debates. In addition to peer-reviewed essays (with double-blind peer review), Aniki publishes interviews, critical book reviews, conference reports, as well as critical texts on exhibitions and film festivals. Each issue also includes a thematic section edited by international guest experts on the chosen topic, which is announced semi-annually in an open call for papers.
