Aims & Scope
Global Chinese responds to the fast-growing scholarly interests in Chinese as a global language, and the need for an international and interdisciplinary forum for research on the language and its users worldwide. It publishes original, peer-reviewed research articles on i) structural variations and change of the Chinese language as used by speakers in different parts of the world; ii) language maintenance and language shift amongst the Chinese diasporas; iii) lingua franca communication amongst the Chinese, and Global Chinese as a lingua franca; iv) learner varieties of Chinese; v) language policy, planning, attitude and ideology regarding Chinese as a global language, and other related topics. Studies using innovative and interdisciplinary research methods are particularly welcome, as are conceptual and theoretical articles. The journal also publishes debates, short notes, book reviews, and regional profiles.
