Bioactive Compounds in Health and Disease
Functional Food Institute · United States · Est. 2017
Aims & Scope
The Bioactive Compounds in Health and Disease (BCHD) journal is a peer-reviewed, open-access publication dedicated to cultivating a deeper understanding of how bioactive compounds impact health and disease across diverse fields of science. The primary objective of this journal is to develop research in an effort to better understand bioactive compounds and their role in reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Through the investigation of bioactive compounds from the standpoint of functional foods, we have defined these compounds as: “Food bioactive compounds are primary and secondary metabolites of nutritive and non-nutritive natural components that generate bioactive impacts on the body, thereby contributing to overall human health.” The BCHD journal addresses the definition of food bioactive compounds (FBCs), where they are located, and how they affect particular molecular pathways. Readers can expect to find current research on the implications of FBCs for human health, as well as their potential to relieve symptoms of chronic diseases. The evaluation of the interplay between FBCs at subcellular, cellular, tissue, and whole-body levels may reveal changes in biological activity that directly impact biomarkers. Furthermore, the publication contains a broad range of research pertaining to the sources and identification of food bioactive compounds (i.e., prebiotic and probiotic compounds, sterols, minerals, vitamins, anthocyanins, dietary fiber, flavonoids, flavonols, isoflavones, lipids, omega-3 fatty acids, polyphenols, phytochemicals, and more). It investigates how the consumption of certain functional foods contributes to human health, such as the anticancer effects of garlic (a plant food) or the impact of fermented milk products (animal products) on gut microbiota. The journal serves as an excellent resource for students, professors, public health professionals, medical doctors, dieticians, nutritionists, and the general public. It presents valuable insights into modern advancements that promote optimal health, reduce the risk of chronic or viral diseases, and support symptom management through bioactive compounds.
