ATeM Archives of Text and Music Studies
Archiv für Textmusikforschung · Austria · Est. 1986
Aims & Scope
ATeM (Archiv für Textmusikforschung) is a cultural studies journal dedicated to the interdisciplinary exploration of the diverse connections between text and music. This includes popular cultural genres (from classical chanson to rap, folk song to Schlager, music revue to film music) as well as forms of classical music tradition such as madrigal, opera, or operetta, and hybrid forms like musical or Zarzuela, situated between high and popular culture. In terms of temporal dimension, contributions on all eras are of interest, but particularly the 20th century and the present; in terms of cultural space and language, the focus is on the entire (including non-European) Romania. ATeM is the publication organ of the Archive for Text-Music Research, which has been based at the Institute for Romance Studies at the University of Innsbruck since 1986. It continues the Bulletin of the Archive for Text-Music Research (BAT), which was published in print from 1998 to 2015. Scientific articles (but not editorials, interviews, reviews, and contributions under "Forum") are subjected to an anonymized review process. ATeM appears annually in January or February; occasional special issues are also published. All contributions for the respective annual issue must be submitted to the editorial office in electronic form (Word file) by the end of June, adhering to the Guidelines for Manuscript Preparation. They can be written in German, French, Italian, Spanish, or, if applicable, English. References to musical examples or evidence can be integrated in the form of online audio citations.
