Aims & Scope
The International Journal of E-Learning & Distance Education (formerly the Journal of Distance Education) is an international publication of the Canadian Network for Innovation in Education (CNIE) / Le Réseau canadien pour l’innovation en éducation (RCIÉ). Its aims are to promote and encourage scholarly work in e-learning and distance education and provide a forum for the dissemination of international scholarship. Original material in either English or French is invited in categories of research articles, research briefs or book reviews. The opinions expressed in the articles of this journal are those of their authors, not the Board or staff of the Canadian Network for Innovation in Education. The following areas of scholarship are encouraged: Emerging Technologies in E-Learning : Explore how emerging technologies can transform distance, online, digital, open, and e-learning education. Inclusive and Accessible Learning : Investigate strategies to make distance education, online, digital, open, and e-learning more accessible to diverse learners Pedagogical and Design Innovations : Emerging teaching and learning design methods, including K-16, including blended, hybrid/hyflex, open, and other learner-centred approaches. Global Perspectives : Encourage research from various cultural contexts to enrich the field from Micro to Macro levels; from practice to policy. Professional Development for educators : Explore the continuous learning needs of distance, online, digital, open, blended, and e-learning instructors. Ethical Considerations : Discussions of privacy, data security, AI, and ethical practices. Pathways for Lifelong learning – Explore the implications and emerging practices around micro credentialling, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), AI, and beyond, and offer ways to maintain continuity of learning during disruption (war, pandemic, climate, political). Assessment – Moving from 20th Century assessment models to novel and progressive ways to assess learners who are studying within technology learning modalities. Sustainability – Explore how open, e-learning, blended, digital, and distance education can contribute to the United Nations Sustainability Goal #4 (UNSDGs) to ensure “inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.
