Aims & Scope
Kwanissa – Revista de Estudos Africanos e Afro-Brasileiros is a scientific journal, published semiannually by the Licenciatura em Estudos Africanos e Afro-brasileiros (Liesafro) and the Programa de Pós-graduação em Estudos Africanos e Afro-brasileiros (PPGAFRO) of the Universidade Federal do Maranhão (UFMA). The journal focuses on the publication of articles, reviews, experience reports, essays that debate both the African continent and its diaspora. As such, the journal focuses on current issues and the history of the continent as well as Afro populations of the diaspora around the world. The publication focuses are: African and Afro-Diasporic History and Culture; Ethnic-racial relations; Education of ethnic-racial relations and laws 10.639/03 and 11.645/08; Legislations referring to the guidelines for education of ethnic-racial relations and quilombola education; Public Policies for the promotion of racial equality; as well as studies involving the African diaspora in its amplitude, with themes about territory, culture, religion, conflicts, sciences in general covering the diaspora. The journal also focuses on themes about gender and its intersectionalities; Law and policies in the African diaspora. The African continent is also a reference for publication in the journal, with an interest in texts that cover this territory, through multidisciplinarity. Thus, geography, natural and health sciences, social sciences, history, archaeology, among others, are of interest to the journal for publication. As such, the journal also focuses on: Cities and the urban in the African continent; Resource exploration, mobilizations and conflicts in Africa; Societies, languages and cultures; Religiosity, among others that have the African territory and societies as a reference.
